mörkna is an androgynous line that explores the idea of exaggerated minimalism and expression of individuality through the use of layer and texture. the mörkna collection is the result of the combined efforts of american-born designers Dave Fryer and Seth Bullough which they established in the summer of 2010. they look to stay conscious of line and volume with the careful selection of fabrics their highest priority.

Late autumn 011 will be morkna's initial season featuring a tight collection in limited quantities. The goal is to offer interesting silhouettes, amazing fabrics and the best quality construction for those looking for an alternative to traditional masculinity. morkna is fortunate to be working with a high quality sewing factory in mid-town Manhattan and using surplus Italian fabrics, giving them new life.

Saturdays originators: Morgan, Josh, and Colin

Opened in 2009, Saturdays Surf NYC offers New Yorkers an original take on California surf culture but translated into a Soho based retail location. Besides the "boards, wetsuits, and vintage inspired beachwear" that the shop offers, the store also doubles as a espresso bar with a full deck in the backyard of the location to pull together the full brand experience of finding weekend beach relaxation amongst skyscrapers and the madness that any major city entails. The trio of guys who started the brand work to keep the garments they produce in line with vintage California beachwear, supple hoodies and sweatshirts, cool tees, and quality jackets for when the breeze rolls in. The tide from Saturdays NYC will reach our Bastille location here in SF in the next week, we will stock a full line of their fall pieces.

Lizzie Owens knows how to dress performers. From psychedelic woodsmen to hip-hop street kids, Owens, a Utah native, has costumed an array of bands, like MGMT, the Cool Kids and Brandon Flowers from the Killers. Her third and most fully conceived collection for Highland, which she started with partners and childhood friends Cramer Tolboe (above left) and Mike Franks (right), features rugged, wearable clothes for the everyday man. Highland showcases mixed prints, unconventional details (like detachable pockets) and classic outerwear in surprising materials (like a teddy-bear car coat) that combine the theatricality of her past with what appears to be a practical future.

This woman needs little introduction. She is a model for a woman with smarts, with an adrogynous face and an ability to morph into any look with ease, from 90s supermodel pretty to grunge, to completely alien.

It's powerful to see her in her mid-40s walking current runways for designer Calvin Klein, featured in avant garde SS2011 pieces for Gareth Pugh and gracing the covers of i-D, Love and Vogue Italia.

It goes so show that women any age can still look beautiful. She still has one of the most spectacular bodies we have ever seen and her signature silver hair has been inspiring girls a fraction her age to dye theirs grey.

We love her off duty style too, usually in shades that compliment her famous hair.

She is over 15 years, but still has lots of energy and is still a very good looking little tigress (and she knows it). She was originally owned by a talented designer we carry at our shop when she was a kitten, but landed in Holly's toasty Tenderloin apartment.

Holiday Preview

We decided that the best way to spend a Sunday morning off was a) procrastinating b) soy hot chocolate and ~~strong~~ seizure-inducing coffee c) brunch at Farmer Brown and d) a holiday photoshoot with one of our favorite beauties on Earth, Lindsey.

Not only is she stunning (good Swedish genes!), but she is also witty, well-read and one of the most intelligent friends we have. She also loves my pies.

We brought a camera, but we also had our trusty smart phones snapping photos for variation. Surprisingly, the IPhone photos came out the best.

Japanese pro photog Koichi Mitsui said of the boom of professional photographers using their IPhones as tools:

Its "simplicity keeps me devoted to only composition and the perfect photo opp."

It's baffling how advanced technology is always evolving. We love this new wave of instant, portable
photography that can, with the right composition, concept and POV, become something really beautiful, fun and special for the amateur photog.

Since it's been pouring and windy here in San Francisco, we thought it would be a good idea to finally test out our water-resistant, Fjallraven Kala parka for all of you.

All our Fjallraven jackets are made with their G-1000 fabric that can be waxed during the winter months. G-1000 is advertised as:

water repellent and quick-drying
almost completely windproof
a breathable fabric
lightweight
provides UV protection and is UPF 50+
mosquito safe

Holly was brave enough to be our test subject. Here are our results:

We had Holly stand out in the rain for a few minutes, making sure she got a good soak.

When she came back inside, we noticed that the water sat on top of the fabric, easily sliding off when she shook it. The water did not soak through at all. It seems almost too easy for us to come up with stylish women who should be featured in our series on style icons (Bardot, Grace Jones, Birkin to name a few) but there isn't a lot of contemporary women now that we think represents impeccable, ageless sophistication and style in an international scale like they did. At least until we thought of Tilda.

From her underground roots as Derek Jarman's muse to her current film portrays, Tilda's versatile, powerful performances have won her not only critical acclaim (including an Oscar win) but also nods from the fashion community for her strong masculin/feminin style (she is also the face of both men's and women's lines from Pringle of Scotland).

It isn't just that she wears Lanvin and Haider Ackermann so well or that she has such androgynous beauty. We think Tilda is such an amazing style icon simply because she is such a creative intellectual and has impeccable taste in a broader spectrum other than fashion. Someone who is well read, uninhibited from challenging, often controversial work and always has an air of sophistication and grace. That, and one of the most beautiful speaking voices we have ever heard.

If there is anything we love more, it's a dirty Frenchman. From playing piano in the Milord L'Arsouille night club to his rich success as the most famous and controversial singer/songwriter in French pop music, Gainsbourg is the epitome of male sensuality, coolness and creativity, which won him some of the most famous affairs with the sexist women in France (a marriage with barely-legal Jane Birkin and the Bonnie to his Clyde, Brigitte Bardot).

Certainly being in his influence and gene pool allows for future stylish and talented musicians/actors, like this little powerhouse.

Surf blonde hair, blue eyes and steel-y good-looks may have given him head way in Hollywood, but this two time Oscar winning tough guy is also a powerful storyteller, directing of some of the best films we've ever seen in our lives (Ordinary People, The Milagro Beanfield War, Quiz Show). Good looks, great wardrobe and high intellect makes Robert oneof our favorite men of style.
